The 2nd Regional Congress on Membrane Technology and the 16th AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Environmental Engineering under the theme “Supporting the SDGs towards Clean Water and Sustainable Energy Production through Emerging Solutions” was successfully held in hybrid mode at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from September 21–22, 2022.
The Regional Conference received tremendous support and was attended by more than 200 participants from 16 different countries, including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Italy, Qatar, and Canada, either physically or virtually.
The conference commenced with a welcoming address from the Vice Chancellor of University Teknologi Malaysia – Prof. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, and opening remarks by the Chief Representative of JICA Malaysia – Mr. Takizawa Masahiko and the Chief Advisor and Acting Executive Director of AUN/SEED-Net – Prof. Emeritus. Ueda Tamon (virtual).
The conference started with a presentation by Prof. Sr. Abdul Latif Ahmad, Universiti Sains Malaysia, on “Wastewater Treatments Towards a Sustainable Aquaculture Industry,” and Prof. Bunsho Ohtani, Hokkaido University (virtual) on “Design, Preparation and Characterization of Functional Nanomaterials Based on Energy-resolved Distribution of Electron Traps.”
The second day of the conference (September 22, 2022) featured two keynote speakers:
Prof. Mikhiro Nomura, Shibaura Institute of Technology (virtual), delivered a comprehensive presentation on the “Importance of Porous Substrates for Ceramic Membranes – Membrane and Membrane Reactor Properties,” while Prof. Mohamed Mahmoud ElSayed Nasef, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, gave a presentation on “Engineering Functional Membranes and Selectively Adsorbing Sheets by Radiation Induced Graft Copolymerization.”
In addition, Prof. Norhazilan Md Noor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, as Editor-in-Chief of the ASEAN Engineering Journal (AEJ), gave a presentation on the promotion of AEJ and provided an update on the ownership transfer from AUN/SEED-Net to Penerbit UTM Press.
