AUN/SEED-Net team led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasem Choocharukul, AUN/SEED-Net Assistant Executive Director and Mr. Takahashi Eiichiro, Project Coordinator visited Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia on October 16 2018, to conduct Student Orientation and Monitoring Visit, Japanese Fiscal Year 2018. The team was warmly welcomed by Vice Dean, Dr. Sugeng Sapto Surjono, Manager of International Affairs, Dr. Indra Perdana as well as UGM faculty members and staff.

The monitoring session aiming to ensure students’ well-being and that all scholars will be able to graduate within scholarship period was facilitated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasem.  AUN/SEED-Net team had a fruitful discussion with the students and their supervisors and acknowledged their study progress and living environment. News and important regulations including safety measures were updated and highlighted during the orientation session.

At present, there are 30 on-going students from 5 ASEAN countries studying at UGM, 17 out of 30 students are Master’s students and 13 are PhD Sandwich students. Recently, 4 new intakes from Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), National University of Laos (NUOL), and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) were enrolled at UGM.

Being a host institution in 5 engineering fields, Computer and Information Engineering (CIE), Chemical Engineering (ChE), Geological and Geo-Resource Engineering (GeoE), Materials Engineering (MatE), and Natural Disaster (ND), is a guarantee that UGM is one of the best technological/engineering institutions in ASEAN region.
