Abstract:

This research combines 3 aspects applying the satellite data with flood disaster. Those 3 aspects are satellite-based rainfall, flood prediction, and environmental issues. Therefore, the aim of this research can be divided into 3 sessions as below
I. Satellite-based rainfall
– To evaluate and bias correct satellite-based rainfalls (TRMM) with rain gauge network
– To estimate rainfall in the ungauged areas of the Chao-Phraya river basin
– To compare the effectiveness between normal and bias corrected TRMM data for flood prediction
II. Flood prediction
– To calibrate and validate the parameters in flood prediction model
– To compare flood forecasting study among Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam
– To create the preliminary flood hazard map for main river in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam
III. Environmental aspects
– To evaluate impacts of flooding to the shrimp farming
– To establish the vulnerability map under different impact scenarios in Bangpakong river basin
To analyze impacting scales on overall shrimp production and related economic impacts in Bangpakong river basin
We can create a group of new researchers among Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. Until the present days, we still keep connection to exchange the related research topics on flood disaster together. Information, Software and Experiences from Japanese Professor were shared among this research group. The students could apply the software as tools from this research for their thesis and expand their knowledge for giving their company or authorities some suggestions during flood after they graduated. In the past, satellite data was limited in usage among only the specific engineer. With this project, we applied the satellite data with flood disaster in terms of warning system. This made more benefits to the society to prepare themselves from the disaster. However, this project was only in the beginning period. The real situation did not implement yet.
