We are pleased to acknowledge one of the remarkable research achievements under the Alumni Support Program for Research (ASP-R).
Dr. Carl John Opigal Salaan and his team at the Electrical Engineering and Technology Department, College of Engineering and Technology, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), an awardee of the ASP-R in the Japanese fiscal year 2021, have presented and published a research paper entitled “Drone with an NDT Hammer for Vertical-Structure Inspection.” in the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2022). The conference was held in hybrid mode on October 23–27, 2022, at The Kyoto International Conference Center, Kyoto, Japan, under the theme “Embodied AI for a Symbiotic Society,” with over 3,800 on-site and 873 online participants attending. The IROS conference is one of the largest and most impacting robotics research conferences worldwide. The JICA Project and AUN/SEED-Net would like to congratulate Dr. Salaan and his team on their success.
In this ASP-R research project, the drone is designed with an aerial system with a non-destructive test (NDT) hammer and a hammer-support mechanism that can perform on a vertical structure. The research benefits society by reducing the time and cost burden of inspectors when investigating damage to the infrastructure.
The ASP-R provides grants to support individual research projects and maintain the momentum of collaboration among the AUN/SEED-Net community and society. The program has expanded from research activity grants to include support for virtual teaching in response to new normal requirements.
This and many other achievements under ASP-R allow our alumni to share knowledge and spread the SEED of future growth to benefit the next generations.
Thank you again for your contributions and staunch support.
