Abstract:
Specific wastewater treatment namely membrane bioreactor which utilizes membrane separation for solid-liquid separation in biological wastewater treatment was applied to the treatment and removal of pharmaceutical compounds contaminated in hospital wastewater. The system was effective for removing pharmaceutical compounds from the wastewater through adsorption of compounds to biological sludge and biodegradation of compounds by microorganisms cultivated in the system. In general, the removal efficiencies of compounds were high enough to reduce the bio-toxicity of treated water to safety level for discharge into natural environment without creating adverse environmental impact. Collaboration with academic society network on micropollutant research Enhancement of research capacity in micropollutant treatment in wastewater treatment system Demonstration of effective wastewater treatment system for the treatment of hospital wastewater
