On February 27, 2017, ASEAN students under the PhD Program and Masters’ Program of AUN/SEED-Net joined a monitoring and orientation visit of the Secretariat led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasem Choocharukul at the Conference Room 1-206, 2nd Floor, Library Information Service Center, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). For 2016 intake, there are twelve new students; two under Geological Engineering and ten under Material Engineering. During the visit, students from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam shared experiences on their livings, studies and thesis update. Later, their comments were later discussed with USM faculty staff for better understanding and further improvement of student’s study progress. On this occasion, AUN/SEED-Net also touched upon financial matters for research grants and discussed with USM about the possible implementation after Phase IV.

On this occasion, on February 28, 2017, the secretariat also conducted an interview with Dr. Lau Tze Liang and Dr. Mohd Ashraf bin Mohammad Ismail who were awarded Collaborative Research for Common Regional Issues (CRC) and Collaborative Research for Alumni (CRA), respectively. Their input about the research programs was invaluable for developing the programs in the future.
