Abstract:
The research on application of seismic device for core frames is carried out in responding to the need for more effective and efficient earthquake resistant building structure in Indonesia. This will be fulfilled by taking the advantages of the performance of steel link on coupling-beam in the high-rise building as the seismic device that is replaceable after severe earthquakes. The steel link is designed to undergo severe plastic deformation and to reach its ultimate strength due to seismic loading while the other elements in the building structure remain elastic and maintain their capacity after the earthquake.
The research project includes numerical analysis on 20 story steel building with core-frames, coupling-beam and link; and experimental work to on half-scale of the core frames with the seismic device.
Collaboration research with Professors in Tokyo Institute and Technology and experts in Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. Valuable discussion and knowledge in steel structural design from Japanese concept and method, as well as sharing experience by Japanese professors both in conducting experimental research project. Lectures by Japanese Professors were conducted in our university (for students and lectures) A new seismic device for highrise building that is effective, economical,
and applicable in Indonesia.
