Abstract

“In the last 5 years, Vietnamese economy grows very fast with a massive investments from Japanese companies, particularly in fields of automobile, electronics and machinery such as MITSUBISHI Heavy Industries, TOSHIBA, TOYOTA ect. With the enormous increase of production quantity and quality in those fields, the needs of raw materials, especially metals such as steel, copper, aluminum … has become extremely urgent. Through the survey data in 2000’s, Vietnam have imported 15,000 tonnes of copper per years, especially, 65,000 tonnes were imported in 2010. According to the calculations, in the coming years Vietnam need to import up to 100,000 tonnes per year. These data show that Vietnam has a growing demand for copper for economic development. To decrease the deficit of the export-import balance, the development of the copper manufacturing industrial in Vietnam is very important. Currently, some copper metallurgy and refining factories were built in Laocai and Bacgiang. In near future, some others will be built in central part of Vietnam. However, 80% copper ores are the compounds of Cu-Fe-S, which are difficult to dissolve. And there are several copper mines in Vietnam but most of these mine’s ore are compound of Cu-Fe-S, example: Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) or Bornite (CuFeS4). Therefore, finding the best way to collect and refine copper from these compounds are very important. Goal of this project are developing a New Technique for Refining of copper based on galvanically- assisted technique with following tasks: Task 1: Optimization of the galvanox process rate controlling Task 2: Characterization of some factors which effect on the galvanox process Task 3: Develop galvanox process for industrial production. “
