Steam boilers are widely used in electric power industry as well as in manufacturing and process industries to produce steam for power generation, process heating and energy conversion. The safety and efficient operation of steam boilers depend essentially on the control and optimization strategies, beside equipment design and maintenance procedure. The boiler dynamics represents a complicated multivariable nonlinear process with large dead-time, which should be taken into account for stable and optimal operation under varying load and various constraints.
Our reserach project aims to develop an advanced approach to build dynamical models of steam boilers and to develop an economic-optimizing predictive control scheme based on these models. This project addresses one of quite important current topics in industrial control applications, especially in the electric power industry. Stronger collaboration with Japanese professors The member of the research group and our students have enhanced their competence to work with real industrial problems, to apply advanced theories to solve practical problems. The results and findings of our work could be applied in the thermalpower industry to increase the efficiency of the operation of steamboilers and to reduce the use of fuels.
