The 10th Regional Conference on Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (RCME/ManuE2019) under the theme “Mechanical and Manufacturing Mobilization for Industrial 4.0” was successfully held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on November 7-8, 2019.

The Regional Conference has received tremendous support and it was attended by more than 80 eager participants from across ASEAN countries and Japan, including scientists, researchers, students, directors, and heads of the department from several institutions.

The conference was commenced by welcoming remarks from Dr. Thavarith Chunhieng, Deputy Director of Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), followed by opening remarks from Mr. Junichi MIURA, Deputy Chief Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Cambodia Office, and H.E. Yuok Ngoy, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia. The conference then proceeded to the plenary talk on “University Industry Linkage toward Industry 4.0: ITB Experience” by Prof. Andi Isra Mahyuddin, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia. During the highly knowledgeable talk, the participants had an opportunity to discuss and exchange knowledge and experience with the speaker directly.

The second keynote speaker was Prof. Mikio UMEDA from Kyoto University, Japan, who gave a presentation on “Future Mechanized and Smart Farming.” With over 30 years of experiences in the research field and his past professional participation in various projects throughout ASEAN countries, Prof. UMEDA’s presentation allowed the participants to gain insightful data and learn the in depth information about Smart Farming.

The second day of the conference (November 8, 2019) featured three more keynote speakers who delivered comprehensive presentations in various topics as follows:

1) Dr. Seingheng Hul, Director of Research Innovation Center of ITC on “Initiatives to Build Support Platform for Research and Innovation and the Readiness for IR 4.0”

2) Prof. Archie B. Maglaya, De La Salle University (DLSU), Philippines on “Preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0): Are We Ready?”

3) Prof. Akira Totosoki, Tokyo Institute of Technology Japan on “3D Printed Composites: Current Status and Future”

In addition, AUN/SEED-Net together with Prof. Andi Isra Mahyuddin as the Section Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of ASEAN Engineering Journal (AEJ) gave a presentation on AEJ Promotional Session, and announced the great news as the journal is now indexed by Scopus. As the representative of AEJ, Prof. Andi Isra Mahyuddin highlighted the opportunity for all researchers, lecturers and students to publish paper with AEJ, which welcomes papers all year round with no submission fee. As a satisfactory result of the session, the journal was well introduced and recognized among participants.

The conference also offered a great opportunity for participants to present their research outcomes and exchange fruitful ideas towards sustainable future of the network in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering field. With the exceptional presentations and active participants, RCME/ManuE2019 was unquestionably a great accomplishment. Nevertheless, without the hard work and devotion of the organizing committee from Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), the conference could not have been this successful. AUN/SEED-Net would like to express our sincere gratitude to the organizer for their generous support and tireless effort that were put towards RCME/ManuE2019.

Last but not least, if any Member Institution (MI) is seeking an opportunity to organize and host the Regional Conference (RC), now we are open and calling for application until January 15, 2020!
